The only memory she had of them was a song they used to sing called, “The Star”. Alone in the world, she’s sent to live with a foster parent. Abused by her foster mother, Nashira ran away. Alone in a dark and scary world, she searched for a place to call home. However, without the love of her parents, she’s unable to find such a place. One day, she stumbled into a dark, smokey, club. There she meets a young, female entertainer who sings a song that made her feel at home. The song she sang was called, “The Star”. In her childhood years (pre-teen), Nashira developed a bond with one of her classmates. She became attracted to Joseph because of his strong family life. She tagged along with him hoping to be part of his family. However, she got pulled away. The longing for home burned in her heart so great that she would sing her parents favorite song called, “The Star”, to ease her heartache. One day, she sang the song with such feeling that it caught the attention of the right people. As she began to climb the ladder of success, she died a tragic and horrible death. Several years later, Joseph received a package in the mail near Christmas time. It was a journal his friend Nashira kept to record the important events in her life. Joseph put her story together and discovered that she was a lost soul in the world. She never really had a home. Joseph wondered why he had such a good life while others suffered. He sought answers to ease his conscious from a spiritual authority. While praying in his room, he gets taken to a magnificent place. There he listened to his friend Nashira sing the song called, “The Star” in her new heavenly home.I grew up in Deep South Texas. My dad was a letter carrier. My mom was a homemaker. I graduated from P.S.J.A High School. I attended U.T. Pan American then transferred to the University of Texas at San Antonio. I earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree at U.T.S.A. Christmas was a special time of year at our home. We would shop the stores and enjoy the sights and sounds. We would travel down the city at night to see the colorful lights and decorations. I would particularly enjoy the carolers. At church we would listen to the choir sing Christmas songs during their Christmas celebration. One of our family traditions was to place a star on top of the Christmas tree. Mom would buy the biggest and best tree she could find. It was always an adventure searching for it. Dad would usually put the star on top. Every time I see a star on a Christmas tree, it reminds me of home.
